To join in the discussion of obscure black belt kata which Phil has started… I thought I would post Hangetsu, the kata I am currently working on.

Its another short / relatively straightforward looking kata that has complex undertones. The first one being getting the stance done properly. This is another video by Kanazawa-sama, and is slightly different to the version we practice.

  1. No worries, I’ll copy this to the kata videos page. I think this is good for the homepage!

    I can sort of get the stance at the very beginning where its slow and deliberate and you have time to coordinate your feet. But on the first quick 180-turn my stance always devolves into something between a back-stance and stomach ache.
